Raw Banana Fry / Plantain Fry / Vazhakkai Varuval

Try this spicy Raw banana fry / Vazhakkai Varuval (in Tamil) which I learnt from mom.  We can also deep fry the raw banana slices and add it to the masala for variation.

It is usually served as a accompaniment for rice with sambar, rasam or curd.

Let's check the recipe now,

Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves. Once it splutters, add the grounded paste; sauté this for a minute.

Just sprinkle water and close the pan with the lid; allow to cook in low flame.

In between check whether it is cooked.   Open the lid, Mix it carefully without breaking the pieces.

Once it gets roasted, remove from the flame.
Serve as a accompaniment for sambar / rasam/ curd rice.

You can also add 3 to 4 small onions while grinding coconut.

Adjust the spice level according to your taste.

You can try the same recipe using yam, sweet potato.

  1. I tried this. It gets mushy. Jst sprinkling d water is enough to cook.

  2. Yes, I have already mentioned to add very little water. Try again and let me know. Thanks for visiting my space and writing it to me.
