Chilli Paneer / Chilli Paneer Gravy

Here is yummy and all time favourite Indo - Chinese special with a fusion by adding Indian cottage cheese (Paneer!)

Check out the other Indo - chinese recipes in my blog:

Gobi Manchurian / Cauliflower Manchurian

Paneer - 2 cups
All purpose flour / Maida - 3 tbsp
Cornflour - 1½ tbsp
Black pepper powder - ½ tsp
Salt - to taste
Water - just to coat
Oil - for deep frying

For the gravy:

Onion - 1 (cut into cubes)
Capsicum - 1 (cut into cubes)
Green chillies - 1 to 2 (finely chopped)
Spring onions - 2 stalk ( chopped)
Ginger - 1 ½ tsp (finely chopped)
Garlic - 2 tsp (finely chopped)
Soya sauce - 1 to 2 tsp
Tomato sauce - 2 tsp
Pepper powder - ½ tsp
Cornflour - 2 tsp
Salt - to taste

In a bowl add paneer cubes, cornflour, maida, black pepper powder and salt.  Add water  to just c
oat the paneer pieces with the flour mixture.

Heat oil in a pan, deep fry the paneer pieces till it become golden brown in colour (Don't fry for a long time as the texture of paneer will become rubbery).  Keep aside.

Now in a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil; add white part of the spring onion, ginger, garlic and sauté till the raw smell goes.

After that add cubed onion, chopped green chillies and capsicum; saute till the onion becomes translucent.

Then add soya sauce, tomato sauce, little salt, sugar and pepper powder.

Add 1 to 1 ½ cup of water / vegetable stock and allow to boil; add red chilli powder to give a Indian touch.

Mean while mix 2 tsp of cornflour in 2 to 3 tbsp of water without lumps and add to the sauces.

Allow to cook in low flame and once it starts to thicken add the fried paneer cubes.

keep it in slow flame for another 1 or 2 minutes and

Serve hot as a accompaniment to fried rice or noodles.

You may increase or decrease the sauces, pepper powder and salt amount to suit your taste.

Soya sauce already has salt in it, so be cautious while adding salt.

Adding red chilli powder is optional.
