Corn flour Halwa / Karachi Halwa - Stove Top Method

Corn Flour Halwa, also called Karachi Halwa, is a tasty & popular sweet, particularly comes handy during unexpected guest arrivals, as it is also easy to make!

This is a 'no fail' recipe; even beginners can try without any tension.  Do try this and post your feedback.

Serves - 6 to 8 persons

Ingredients:

Corn flour - ½ cup
Sugar - 1½ cup
Water - 2 ½ cup
Cardamom powder - ¼ to ½ tsp
Orange food colour - as required
Ghee - 1 to 2 tbsp
Cashew nuts - 10 to 12 no.(roughly chopped)

Directions:

Grease a plate with ghee and keep aside.

In a bowl, add corn flour, 1½ cup of water and food colour; mix well till you see no lumps.  Keep aside.

In a kadai, add 2 tsp of ghee and fry the cashew nuts into golden brown.  Keep aside.

Heat the same pan; add sugar and 1 cup of water.  Stir well it is dissolved( no need to check for string consistency).

when it starts to boil, reduce the flame to medium and add corn flour mixture (give it a mix, before adding) to the sugar syrup; stirring continuously.

Add a tbsp of ghee and continue mixing. At this the mixture will become  glossy and transparent.

When it starts to thicken add cashew nuts, cardamom powder and remaining ghee; continue stirring till it leave the sides of the pan.

Remove from the stove and pour into a greased tray and garnish with cashews.

After cooling it will start to set.  You can cut this into desired shape and serve.

Note:

You can also add badam(almond) and pistachio nut.

It will take atleast 1 hour to set the halwa and make it  into squares. If you can't wait just serve them in the bowl !
